Today, many mushroom supplements use a method known as mycelium on grain. During this process, producers grow mushroom mycelium on rice or oats before drying and grinding the entire material into powder.
Because grain remains part of the finished product, the final powder can contain significant amounts of starch.
For this reason, many consumers now look specifically for products made from mushroom fruiting bodies rather than grain-based biomass.
